Georgetown Poppy Festival

I intended to submit a painting into the Festival this year, but Suzie really wanted my "Georgetown Garden". Better to have a person who likes your artwork that to just have it on display. Thanks Suzie, don't worry I'll create something next year.

Painting on Main Street

Each year a number of artists are invited to paint out on the Main Street in Huntsville, Ontario. This event is sponsored by the Hollingshead Gallery. After a day in the sun, all paintings are auctioned off on the steps of the city hall. It is a great event with the proceeds donated to the local high school art program. Workshop at the Bohemian Gallery

This Saturday was the first workshop of a series of 4 - Acrylic Painting - "Thick and Thin". We had a lot of fun and the students were great. Next week we will explore how to paint with acrylics transparently - like Watercolour.

A FUN AND DIFFERENT CHALLENGE!

Have you ever painted on a wall - outside in the sunshine? If not, you should try it! My good friend Sharon asked me to help her with this project for Pat and Tony. Tony provided a photo he had taken in Santorini and said he would like us to paint it on a tiled wall on his patio. We really did not know where to start, but we were definitely up for the challenge. We planned, we drew, we traced and we painted. We were in Sun City, outside in the beautiful sunshine. Tony plied us with wine. Two friends, creating together - life doesn't get any better than that.

I DON"T PAINT FLOWERS!

If you look at my blog you will notice that I seem to have a lot of flower paintings. I am not sure why because I have always avoided painting flowers. That is until recently - my two latest paintings are also flowers! I entered both in the Sun City "Meet the Artist" exhibition and Jan Swanda bought Spring Bloom. I have to say, it was a good choice as it looks fantastic in her living room. Not sure if I will continue painting flowers, but these last two were lots of fun.

As an artist I am always looking for inspiration - this winter it was poppies - not sure why! Maybe it's because of the Georgetown Poppy Festival, or maybe it was the beautiful picture my friend Darline sent me of the prize poppy growing in her Muskoka garden. Anyway I was motivated to paint poppies and I love the colour RED.

Quite a Challenge

Believe it or not - you can paint without drawing. I usually paint with minimal sketching, but I thought it would be fun to try something a little different. This is a picture that I just completed. Definitely different than my usual style.

What's been happening....

In Sun City, Texas there is always a lot to do. I have been busy teaching an Acrylic painting class. It was a lot of fun, and my students did a great job. We had an event called "Meet the Teacher" where teachers got together to demonstrate some of their work.

Six Degrees Muskoka

If you haven't been to this new gallery in downtown Muskoka you are missing out. Thanks to the great people who thought of the idea, and to the great people who work there, and to my fellow artists who are all excited about the prospect of bringing artists and buyers together. Not only do we have the opportunity to display our work, many of us will be demonstrating and sharing what we know. We'd love to meet you there.

Selling can be "Bittersweet"...

In the recent Huntsville Art Crowd "Elements in Art", I was fortunate to be able to sell a piece of artwork. Lesson learned however, "if you are selling your art make sure that you are prepared for the void!". I was so happy to make a sale, but I do miss that piece which used to hang in my family room. Congratulations to the new owner, I hope you like your purchase. And don't worry I am certain I will fill the space before long - I always like a reason to paint something new.
